Cancionero Papiamento / Pierre Lauffer Jr

From the liner notes:

Pierre Lauffer Jr first spoke to his father [Pierre Lauffer Sr, 1920-1981] about making an album of his songs and poems in 1979. Pierre Sr said: “you’ve got the music and the musicians and I’ve got the words and some money”. Unfortunately he soon fell seriously ill and died not two years later before they could get down to fulfilling the plan.

Pierre Lauffer Jr was born on Curaçao, N.A.  in 1945. in the 1960s he played rhythm guitar in the local rock band Los Honda. They performed locally on Curaçao and did a two year stint in Caracas, Venezuela, where they recorded one long-playing album which was called “la Onda de los Hondas”. Pierre returned to Curaçao in the 1970s where he gave guitar lessons and played in various trios, quartets or quintets at the local hotels. The 1980s saw him taking part in numerous jam sessions, carnaval processions and as the bass player in a jazz trio called Arikoktet that included a repertoire from swing to bebop.

Pierre moved to the Netherlands in 1988. he was commisioned by the Curaçao Tourist Authority and the Antilles House in The Hague, to play live Antillean music. His repertoire consists of the typical Antillean rhythms from all the ABC [Aruba, Bonaire, Curaçao] islands.
