The cart is empty

This is about a young Tunesian couple. He has decided to flee the country by boat to find work and try to secure a future for the two of them. She is a single mother with no relatives who had to give up her child for adoption.

A little bit melancholy to the good old days of careless flying. You just went to the airport and checked in and that was it. Now it is a circus with moody security personnel implementing ever tighter security measures and a humiliating undressing procedure. For our own good, of course. This poem was written before the infamous “Christmas Day bombing attempt” on December 25, 2009, when 23-year-old Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab tried to blow up Northwest Airlines Flight 253 from Amsterdam to Detroit with plastic explosives in his underwear. So, what’s next?

What to say about 9/11/2001? Words fail, of course. With all the suffering, what touched me the most was those poor people who had to choose between burning alive and jumping….……

Pierre Lauffer jr was a good friend and a gifted entertainer, singer and multi-instrumentalist. He suffered from diabetes that caused damage to his blood vessels and heart. He desperately  fought against his disease, but finally died from a fatal heart attack at the age of 62. His favorite song was:” I did it my way”.

A small town has its own pace. To live there has advantages and disadvantages like everywhere else, but still there is something to it…..

The world is a global village, but no means of communication can replace a firm hug…….

For all the parents, children and grandchildren who live far apart……………
