The sudden death of a good friend, an apparently healthy man, leaves one with that one question: why? With thanks to Edna Proctor.

On the untimely death of John C.

Oh Lord, why have you done this to me
Oh Lord, why have you done this to me
They say You are almighty, and love and so on
But I am for the moment just the widow of John
Please, have mercy with his soul
Please, have mercy with his soul

Oh yeah, we lived the good life, all things were going great
But sometimes it just nagged me, I was somehow afraid
We were so very happy, time was passing so fast
I hardly could imagine, that this would ever last
He looked so strong  and healthy, I could not be aware
Of something I should worry, but yet the fear was there
He told me not to worry, he would take care of all
And now I feel so sorry I was right after all

Oh Lord, why have you done this to me
Oh Lord, why have you done this to me
They say You are almighty, and love and so on
But I am for the moment just the widow of John
Please, have mercy with his soul
Please, have mercy with his soul

My man he was a soldier, his comrades loved him all
He did believe in justice, and wanted peace for all
He did it for his country, and people that he loved
And yes, he felt so strongly, Your blessings from above
You know he was a good man, You must have noticed that
And yet You took him with You, I have to live with that
You tell me not to worry, You can take care of all
But I, I feel so sorry, I’m alone after all
